Lee DeWyze

American Idol. Season 9. Lee DeWyze. Need I say more?

I guess you could say I'm a fan.

I have been following American Idol for it's entire ninth season. I actually think it's a really inspiring show. People of all ages, races, genders pursuing their dreams to become a recognized musical artist. Albeit, many of these peoples' aspirations are totally unrealistic.. such as Mr. Pants-On-The-Ground, otherwise known as Larry Platt - a 62 year old man in the Atlanta round of auditions who spoke his catchy, unforgettable, original composition, "pants on the ground, pants on the ground, lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground". This man had absolutely no musical credibility and therefore no hope of becoming the next American Idol (not to mention he was too advanced in years to even participate in the show). On the contrary: Lee DeWyze.

The finale of American Idol Season 9 is next week. Last night it was narrowed down to two: Lee and Crystal Bowersox. She's a unique, commendable, indie artist -- but not my cup of tea. She has been fairly consistent throughout the competition, but Lee has shown a lot of growth as a person and artist. Near the beginning he was quite insecure and hardly confident on stage. But through his success in the competition Lee has started really believing in himself which has paid off in the energy and believability aspects of his performances. He's got charm, urbanity and suavity like no other. And he's going all the way. I hope. Needless to say I will be watching the final shows next Tuesday and especially Wednesday in sheer suspense and anticipation of the results. GO LEE!
