nineteen years in my rearview
September 6, 2010: the date I moved from my cozy, comfortable little hometown to school in an unfamiliar city. I have lived in the same place my whole life. The same place, with almost the same people, attending the same church and the same school. Life was not too mundane but I was no stranger to my day-to-day routine of the past nineteen years. When I decided to complete an application and received acceptance to a Bible school, the nearing metamorphosis became more and more palpable. I spent the preceding summer with close friends and family and prepared to leave in the fall.
September 6th was an exciting day. I expected to be more nervous than I turned out to be. We packed up my belongings and began our drive to my new home. Upon my arrival I met my apartment mates; there are five of us in total. I immediately felt a sense of contentment within their presence. When moving into permanent --albeit only for eight months-- accommodations, one is bound to be apprehensive about the "roommate situation" (as it is commonly referred to). Though I have only spent a few days with my new friends I recognize God's provision for us all. We have been put together for a purpose. I look forward to learning things from these girls as well as being challenged by them. Making the transition from home to post-secondary school is not only about the learning which takes place within the classroom, but the life lessons learned outside of it as well.
I am registered in a one year Global Adventures program at school. This entails eight months of classroom learning and preparation concluding with a 6-8 week missions trip. We're going to Africa! We don't have an exact destination yet, but I am SO excited!
I know God has a tremendous year of lessons, challenges and blessings predestined for me. Can't wait to get started. Here I go.
