My Buried Life?
I recently began watching a show called The Buried Life on MTV. Mind you, I don't usually watch MTV however this particular show seemed quite interesting and even inspiring. The concept is created by four guys: Duncan, Dave, Jonnie and Ben, who decide to make a list of things to do before they die. They travel from place to place making plans to accomplish each item on their list. For each item crossed off on their list, they help someone else cross something off theirs. Some of list is ridiculous, some is thoughtful and some is ambitious; they hope to achieve things such as: competing in a krump competition, throwing the best party, help deliver a baby, tell a joke on a late night show. This got me thinking of what would be on my list if I had one. Then I thought, why not just create one? It's very motivating to have a list of things to do and a list like that would be a great place for me to document some of the life experience I hope to have.
So here it goes.
Well, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll dream up some others to add soon.
Meanwhile, I'd encourage you to create your own list. It's sort of empowering. Just try it.
So here it goes.
- Volunteer at an orphanage in Africa. Anyone who knows me (or has read my previous posts) knows that I have a passion for volunteering, missions work and children. Children + Africa = LOVE
- Send a message in a bottle. .. or even a successful chain letter. I know everyone hates those but I think there's something cool about a certain piece of paper that has been passed from one person to the next, to the next, to the next; traveling to different places in the country.
- Read through the entire Bible in 90 days. This one is going to be hard. I have never read through the entire Bible, let alone in 90 days. It will definitely take some dedication; but I'm looking forward to it.
- Attend a red carpet event. Don't laugh - I'm a dreamer and I know it. I have consistently been entering an online contest since the middle of February (which ends in the middle of May). The winner of the draw will be awarded the opportunity for two to attend the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011. This would be amazing. Even though I never win anything - and I mean nothing - I am curiously optimistic about this. If it's not this time, I will certainly find another way.
- Swim with dolphins.
- Design and create a dress.
- Ice skate on a frozen lake. First of all, I'm not the greatest skater ever (and even that is a huge overstatement) so it would be one accomplishment in and of itself to skate successfully. Second, I think it'd just be so much better on a frozen lake (or river, or canal, whatever). This item on the list comes from me living vicariously through the life of Casey Carlyle (actress: Michelle Trachtenberg) in Ice Princess.
- Learn to play guitar. This is probably the item most near to completion. My sister has a guitar so all I need to do is replace a string and start practicing. This item was made possible by my dear friend, Wesley, who rediscovered the application on my computer which teaches guitar. Yay Wes!
- Win Tim Hortons Roll Up The Rim. In all the years I've supported them with my business, I have never ever won anything. It's ridiculous.
Well, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll dream up some others to add soon.
Meanwhile, I'd encourage you to create your own list. It's sort of empowering. Just try it.
